Globe 5G Network Now Covers 80% of NCR

As a result of Globe's sustained and robust initiatives to modernize its network to allow its customers to experience the latest in telecom technology, 80 percent of Metro Manila can now experience 5G outdoor coverage.

To make 5G services available to its customers, the telco has converted 884 locations in NCR into 5G-ready sites. More 5G-ready sites will continue to be built all over the country.

"We continue to invest on our network so our customers get to experience the many promises and opportunities of the most advanced technologies like 5G. With our aggressive roll outs, our network is getting closer to making the whole of Metro Manila 5G ready. Ultimately, our goal is to make the 5G experience as pervasive as possible," said Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO.

Commercial and financial hubs, including Bonifacio Global City, Makati, and Ortigas Commercial Business Districts (CBDs), are nearing completion with coverage of 97%, 95%, and 97%, respectively.

The top nine cities with the highest 5G outdoor coverage are San Juan (91 percent), Pateros (91 percent), Mandaluyong (86 percent), Makati (84 percent), Caloocan (84 percent), Manila (83 percent), Marikina (83 percent), Pasig (81 percent), and Quezon City.

Efforts are being made in other main cities in the country, such as Cebu and Davao, to increase Globe's 5G readiness further. In Cebu, modernization efforts currently cover 61 percent, while Davao has 60 percent coverage.

For 2021, Globe has allocated a P70-billion CAPEX, much of which is for network expansion at key locations across the region. Globe plans to install 2,000 new cell towers this year and accelerate its fiber rollouts to connect more Filipino homes.

In recent weeks, Globe's aggressive buildings of cell sites have resulted in a better call, SMS, and data experience for its customers across the country. Ookla, the leading firm in internet speed testing and research, has confirmed this with its latest consistency report.

According to Ookla, Globe Telecom's regional mobile Consistency Score improved from the previous quarter in 16 out of 17 regions; recording increases as high as 10 PPTs (percentage points), with Consistency Scores ranging from 39% and 65% in Q4 2020. Ookla's quarterly data reveals that Globe's overall Consistency Score in Q4 2020 improved to 60.82% from Q3's 56.83%.

The Mobile Consistency Score tests the number of incidences (viewed as a percentage) of samples from a provider that equal or exceeds both a 5 Mbps download threshold and a 1 Mbps upload threshold.

With an increasing number of affordable 5G-capable smartphones, Globe encourages its customers, especially those using the old 3G SIM cards, to upgrade to 5G-ready 4G LTE SIM cards and 5G-enabled mobile devices, so they can completely enjoy and experience the advantages and benefits of 5G.

At any Globe shops, SIM change is free, and customers can keep their old number. Customers are recommended to upgrade their SIM at the Globe Store only for security reasons.
