Netflix is an online video streaming platform that needs a fast and stable internet connection to have a seamless viewing experience. Netflix has released the January 2021 leaderboard for internet service providers in the Philippines based on their performance.

The ISP Speed Index of Netflix tests which Internet Service Providers have the best Netflix viewing experience during prime time. The list is based on data collected from users on the site.

According to the January 2021 Netflix ISP Speed Index for the Philippines, Globe and Converge tied on the top spot at 3.2Mbps. Competition at the top of the ISP leaderboard is going stiff, as Globe joins the previously sole rank 1 Converge.

Meanwhile, PLDT came second place at 3.0 Mbps, followed by SKYCable at 2.8 Mbps. The last place goes to the Laguna-based telco Royal Cable with a speed of 2.4 Mbps.

The speed index is vital for streaming Netflix because Netflix's videos are best viewed on an internet network that performs well on categories like speed, latency, jitter, and packet loss. Otherwise, users would have buffering, pixelization, and other video streaming-related issues.

In Globe's recent disclosure, the telco said that 2020 was a successful year for its Home Broadband business, posting revenues of P26.8 billion, a 23% hike year-on-year from P21.7 billion in 2019. The total home broadband subscriber base currently stands at 3.8 million, an 88% increase from 2019.

Globe Telecom plans to roll out an additional 1 million fiber lines in 2021. Globe allocated an unprecedented Php 70 billion in CAPEX this year, 80% of which will be spent on data network builds.

Darius Delgado, VP and Head of Broadband Business at Globe, said, "This recognition from Netflix shows our commitment to bring highly reliable internet service to our customers. Apart from providing relevant products and services, we strive to improve our customers' overall experience on our network."

In 2020, Globe began on an aggressive build and network expansion program. According to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), the company posted the most number of new site builds. Globe built a total of 10,395 towers as of December 2020.
