Mobile analytics company Opensignal has released its report regarding DITO's mobile network experience.

According to the Opensignal report, DITO subscribers enjoyed the fast internet connectivity during the March launch, but it slowed down later.

From March 8 to April 6, 2021, DITO subscribers from initial areas Metro Cebu and Davao City experienced an average download speed of 16.2 Mbps and 16.0 Mbps, respectively, significantly higher than other networks like Globe Telecom and PLDT's wireless arm Smart Communications.

However, in the following 30-day period, the download speed declined slightly, recording at 10.6 Mbps and 9.5 Mbps average download speeds.

In May, the telco launched in Manila. DITO's download speed record was relatively similar to the other combined operator average in the first 30 days. In the following two 30-day periods, the telco's speed didn't improve and ranked below the all operator average.

Overall, DITO users' Download Speed Experience is either around or below the average across all the operators (Globe and Smart). DITO's average download speeds range from 9.4 Mbps to 20.4 Mbps.

"The initial declines in the average speeds seen by our DITO users are not surprising," said Opensignal.

"It's common for initial network launches to lead to a volatile network experience," it added.

According to Opensignal, these results will likely change over time as DITO's network grows and its subscriber base.

It noted subscribers may still choose to keep Globe and PLDT-Smart as their mobile service providers.

For the uninitiated, the DITO consortium comprises Dennis Uy's Udenna Corporation, Udenna's subsidiary Chelsea Logistics Holdings Inc., and Chinese state-owned China Telecommunications Corporation. It was initially known as Mislatel.

In its first year of operations, DITO's commitment was to deliver 37.03% national population coverage within at least 27 Mbps of minimum average broadband speed.

In June 2021, DITO has reached its 1 million subscribers nationwide. In the same month, the telco has installed 3,000 cell sites throughout the country.
