SpaceX unveils Starlink Premium with speeds up to 500 Mbps
SpaceX has unveiled a new Starlink offering called Starlink Premium, announced by CEO Elon Musk on Twitter.
Starlink Premium claims twice the antenna capability of Starlink, resulting in faster internet speeds and higher throughput.
According to SpaceX, Starlink Premium is targeted at high-demand users and businesses, especially "small offices, storefronts, and super users." The antenna has been increased in size and redesigned with a squarish shape to increase throughput and ensure bandwidth for critical operations even during peak network usage periods. Additionally, it performs better in extreme weather conditions.
The internet service promises to deliver "download speeds of 150-500 Mbps and latency of 20-40ms." The basic Starlink offers 100-200 Mbps with 20ms latency. SpaceX added that Starlink has "no long-term contracts, no data caps, and no exclusivity requirements."
The Starlink Premium Kit includes the Starlink antenna, WiFi router, cables, and base. According to Starlink, the internet service requires a clear view of the sky to connect. Users can download the Starlink App for iOS and Android to determine their best install location. It also offers 24/7 prioritized support.
According to SpaceX, the "larger, rectangular" Starlink Premium dish will cost USD 2500, require a USD 500 deposit, and cost USD 500 per month. The company is now accepting orders with expected shipping in Q2 2022.
