( The garland of Chants on  Lord Subrahmanya)

(Here is a remarkable prayer  addressed  to Lord Subrahmanya .It is written in the style of Dandakam.   It is  taught by  Saint Brugu to Lord Rama . It has an introduction,  Dhyana  , nyasa followed by  two very  huge sentences ending  with” please protect me” and the third part is  requests to the Lord for fulfilling    the wants of the devotee.) 

Brugur Uvacha:-

Sage Brugu said:-

1. Sruna  Rama, pravakshyami  Subrahmanyasya vai guro,

Mala Manthram  manu srestam  sravanadh Bhakthi mukthidham ,

Brahma hathya sura pana guruDharagamadhimibhi,

Paapai  peeditha chithaanaam  sodhakam  Gangathoyavath,

Abheepsithartha samprapthou kalpa vruksha samam  nrunaam

1.Oh Rama , please   hear,  I will  now tell you   the garland chant of  Lord Subrahmanya  ,

 Who is the Guru and who is greatly wise, which will give you devotion    and salvation,

Which purifies the mind  afflicted by  the sins of Brahma Hathya,

Drinking  of alcoholic drinks  and  having relation with wife of Guru,

Like   the sacred   waters  of Ganga  , and it is also,

Fulfills all your desires    and is equal to the  wish giving tree  of Devas.

2.Asya  Sri Subrahmanya mala manthrasya  Brahma Rishi  , Sarvaani chandamsi, Sri Subrahmanya   paramathma   DEvathaa, Sum bheejam, Nama Sakthi, jnanam keelakam, Sri Subrahmanya  prasada  sidhyarthe   jape  viniyoga

Saam  ithyadhi   shadanga  nyasa   Dhyanam

2. Now for the garland chant on lOrd Subrahmanya , the sage is  Lord Brahma  , All meters are used , the God addressed is Lord Subrahmanya  , the root is ‘sum”, the poer is “Nama”  , the wisdom is the nail    and this is being chanted to get the  grae of Lord Subrahmanya,

The six limb   ritual  is Saam and so on

3.Dhyanam (meditation)

Sindhoorarauna  mindhu padma jayibhi , shadbir mukhai r bhasitham,

Karunyamrutha  poora sundara tharai  bhaandham dwishallochanai,

Bhibraanam   varamabjja yugmabhyam   SAkthi dhvyam karmukam,

Gadgam  charma  prushadkumangusa gadhe   vallesameekshe  hrudhi.

The  Lord  who has  the   six faces which  wins over  the  saffron coloured moon and lotus flower,

Who has     twelve  very pretty eyes   which looked as if drenched  by nectar like  mercy,

Who carries   two Sakthi weapons  , Bow shaped weapon , sword   , mace , goad,

And   shows   boon   as well as protection   and is the lord of Valli   and I keep him in my heart

1.Om  namo bhagawathe , Maha senaya  , Maha veeryaya , Maha Thejase  , Girisango upavesine  , Giri Sutha   vathsalya  pathraya , Muni jana  mahaneeyaya, Man manoradha  pooranaya,Kalyana  guna nilayaya,Kamalapthi bagineyaya, Kamalakshaya, Kamalabhava   vandhithaya ..

1.Om salutations   Oh God, Oh Lord with great army  , Oh Lord   with great  valour, Oh Lord with great luster, Who lives  on the  mountain  , who gets the affection of the   daughter of the mountain , Who is  considered as great  by sages, who fulfills the desires of   my mind, In whom  all good characters  live. Who is the nephew of the  husband  of Goddess  Lakshmi , who has eyes like lotus flower , who is saluted  Lord Brahma..

2… Khadgacharmeshwasi dharine  ,Khasthaya  , Khathulyaya , Kha roopine , Gathimatham varaya , Gamanajitha gajaya , Gathipradhaya, Ghanaradhithaya ,Gobrahmana  hitha karaya, naka pradhaya, Narayanaradhithaya, Narada dumburu viswavasu prabruthi vara veena nadha vinodhithaya..

2.Oh lord who wears the sword and the leather scabbard , who belongs   to this earth   , who is equal   to the earth , who has the form of the earth  , who is the best among  those who move  , Who is  the elephant which wins  over all those who move , who grants us salvation , who is worshipped  by singing  , who does   good to cows and Brahmins , Who grants heaven  , who is worshipped by Narayana , Who is entertained by the music coming out of Veena played  by Narada, Sumburu  , Viswavasu and others… ,

3….sarva loka  pithre , sarva loka mathre , sarva loka  pathre, Sarva loka suhrudhe , sarva muni jana sathva poorna mano nivasa sheelaye, SArvagnaya, Sama drushtaye, Samabhyadhika varjithaya, Devaya , DevadevayaDevasura  vandhitha padaya, Deva sena pathaye , Deva sena rakshana thath paraya , Divya  bhoothaye, Divya Vibhoothaye  ,…

3. Oh father of all the world, Oh mother  of all the world  , Oh minister  of all the world  , Oh friend of all the world , who has the habit   of living in the minds   of all the sages who are  filled   with goodness , who knows everything , Who views everything equally  , who avoids people who think  they are equal  or superior to him , who is God, who is God of Gods  , whose feet is worshipped   by devas   and asuras , Who is the consort of Devasena , who is  interested  in protecting the army of devas ,,who is a divine  being , who is the divine innate  power..

Hari chandana samaya, hari chandana charchithya , hariharalingitha angaya, varadaya  , valli kamukaya , vasavadhi vibudha vara  vandhithaya , varenyaya, veeraya, Vignadhipathi   sahajaya , Vyadha roopaya, Vyadi nivarakaya, vyadipakshaya, viyad gangabishikthaya  , vividhayudha  dharine Vikshiobitharadhi balaya , Veera bahu-veera kesari-viskhadhi roopa dharine …

4…..Who is like  moon light,  who had applied    yellow sandal paste  , whose body is hugged by  Harihara , Who is the lover of Valli  , who is saluted by Indra and other  gods , who is  the the most desirable   , who is a hero  , who is the friend of God of obstacles, who has the form of a hunter , who cures illnesses , who is on the side of snake , who is anointed by  heavenly ganges , who is armed with various type  of weapons, who is the strength of the agitated stars  , who took the form of  Veera Bahu, VeeraKeasri   and Vishaka…

5….maanyaya , manitha muni janaya , maritharathaye, matharisvasamajavaya  , Mathanga radha vaji padathinayanaya, mruthyu mrutyuve  , mrugayuveshadharaya , mayooravahanaya  , mesha madha haarine, Mohanaya, Moksha roopaya, Moksha  roopaya  , mumukshu sevyaya , muktha sevithaya , mahamahimne  , maha vrutha dharaya  , shadananaya , Sashti poojana  priyaya, Sooraya  , Sooranthakaya , Sastra gamyaya….

5… who is honourable  , who is respected by sages  , who is respected by those whom he killed , who moves like wind,  who led an army of elephants, chariots, horses and infantry , who is the death for death,  who took the form of a hunter, who rides on peacock, , who  destroyed the pride  of a goat like asura, , who attracts , who has the form of salvation , who grants  salvation , who serves those who have given up everything  , Who   is served by liberated ones, who has great fame  , who does great penance , who has six faces  , who likes to be worshipped on the sixth phase of moon  , who is valorous, who killed Soora  , who  is attainable through Sastras…

6…. vEda vedhyaya , vedagamapara druswane , vidwath priyaya , vidhitha vedhyaya , Vani REma sevithaya  , tharakaya  , Tharakarathaye  , Tharakadhipa thejosmithaya  , Karuna  nidhaye , Karadhi varjitha swaroopaya , kali dosha haraya, kalitha natha shubhaya, Krouncha dharanaya, Ganga suthaya, Garudasana vallabhaya,

6…. Who is an expert in Vedas  , who has seen the end of Vedas and Agamas , who likes  wisdom  , who ordained learning  , who is served by Lakshmi and Saraswathi  , Who makes us cross , who killed Tharaka  , who smiles like the lord   of the stars, who is the treasure of mercy, who has a form devoid of causes, who removes the evils of Kali age , who does good to the learned devotees , who wears a cock  , who is the son of Ganga  , Who is the lord to  God who sits on Garuda…

1,The lord who lives trees,  who has climbed up a tree  , who  honoured the great one of Vrushni clan, , Who holds two consorts by right as well as left hands , who is the valorous leader , Who  has Saraswathi holding Veena and book as his devotee, Who likes  Bilwa leaves, Who sits  concentrating his mind in between his brows, Who  stays in the triangle  , who is the dot in the middle of  the  hexagon , Who   is the devotee of the six syllable letter of Lord Shiva, , Who is in the chant of eight letters  euologising Lord Vishnu, Who is on the auspicious mountain,  Who is in the middle of clouds , Who is   the Guru of Shiva, Who has dedicated himself to Lord Shiva , who salutes the lotus like fet of Lord Shiva with fame.

2.The Lord who does not  have  eyes, not have ears,  not have legs  and not have  hands , but can see, can hear  , can use his thighs  and can catch ,who has  the form of truth  , who has divine joy in his  soul  Who has the form of  wisdom  , who goes  towards wisdom, who has  the form of   one who gives wisdom, wisdom and   one who gets wisdom , who has a soul  of three  fold characters, who looks after  and praises  wisdom , who is the very pure  three  worlds  , Who is the  greatest God  , who is the cloud that puts out   the fire  of sin, who is worshipped by Pramadhas (Who are  one type of Bhoothas of  lord Shiva)  , who has well spoken reputation,  who is saluted  by blessed people  , who  gives good results to all beings  , who has the form of divine  Brahman  ,Who  happily   grants   divine blessings  , who sits on lotus  flower who is liked by  Lord Brahma   and sage  Agasthya

3…..Kaivalya pradha , KOmala Manasa , Krishnangaraka chathurdasyaradhana  priya, Anadha , asamsarin , pravarthitha samsara chakra  nithya muktha, Nithya Shuddha, Nithya Budha, Niravadhya, Nirasraya , nirakruthe, Maya srushta bhuvana thraya mayatheeth, Mathru priya, Bala Roopa, Bala grahadhipa,Barhi barhachipunjarajitha thano, bruhadroopa, bruhadaman , Brahmana Veditha, Brahmana priya,Bahu krutha, Bahyabhyanthara rahitha, Brahma nishta, Brahmacharin, Abrantha vruthe, Abrantha, adhaman Branthi nasana, brantha bhuvana thraya , Maam palaya  Palaya

3. The Lord who gives  salvation,  who has a  pretty mind  , wholikes to be worshipped on Tuesdays and Chathurdasi   days of   the waning moon,  Who does not have   any one for him  , who does not have a family  , who is free  of the wheel of Samsara   which is acting  , who is forever pure , Who is forever intelligent , who is many , who does not depend on any one  , who is despised  , who is the illusion   which created   three  worlds  , who likes his mother  , who also has   a form of a child  , Who is the  lord of powerful   planets , who has a body decorated by heap of  scented flowers, Who has a very big form,  who has a very big form, who is worshipped by Brahmins , who likes  Brahmins, Who does very many acts , who does not have inside or outside , who is meditated upon by Brahma  , who  observes chastity  , who does not  have an erroneous character , Who is not in error  , who destroys  vile people,  who destroys confusion, who moves around all the three  worlds, Please protect me ,please protect me.

1.THamasi nirjane  padhi  kanthare  cha sascharantham  sareesrupa chora damshtribhyo  Raksha raksha

1.Please protect me from the teeth  of creeping animals and thief   when I am moving about  in darkness   and in lonely   road  filled   with thorns.

2.Apadha pravruthai  nivaraya nivaraya

2.Ward off  ward off me from dangerous acts / improper  acts

3.Nadhee thadaha samudhardhishu  majjantham  maam  Udhara udhara

3.Save me , save me from drowning    in river  , lake  and ocean

4.Vruksha soudhadhibhya  pathantham  avalambasva, avalambasva

4.Catch hold of me, catch hold  of me when I am falling from the tree  or  from fine big  houses

5.Adhanaadh adamarnathabhyaam   seedhantham maam  kauberimapi   sriyam  upahsasanthim  sampadam arpayithva   aasvasaya aasvasaya.

5.Make me    who is  living with poverty and  debts  , have  good fortune  which even exceeds that  of Kubhera  by giving  me wealth   and cheer me up , cheer me up.

6.Pasu puthra   mithra kalathra  kshetha aaramadhi  samrudhim kuru kuru

6.Make cows , sons, friends  , wives  , homes and gardens    plentiful , plentiful

7.Trisandhyamapi  thwath pada  pankaja namaskruthim  karaya  karaya
