DITO Telecommunity launches on March 8, starts in Davao, Cebu

The third major telco DITO Telecommunity Corp. is prepared for its commercial launch on March 8 after it passed its first technical audit that measured if it can meet its commitments for its first year of operations.

DITO Chief Administrative Officer Adel Tamano, on February 23, said, "We want the public to know that on March 8 the year, we will be having our commercial launch. Phased launch. First in Mindanao. We will make ourselves available on March 8 Regional starting with Davao and Cebu."

Tamano added, "Initial commercial rollout in Mindanao and Visayas. Within the year, we will be offering our services as well in NCR."

The first phase of the rollout will be in Mindanao to serve the underserved areas in the region. The telco was initially called Mislatel or Mindanao Islamic Telephone before being renamed DITO.

By March 8, DITO will activate its network services in 17 cities and nearby municipalities in Mindanao and Visayas. There will also be 10 to 20 stores in Visayas and Mindanao as well as online to be available, Tamano said.

DITO will be assigning the following digits or prefixes for their subscribers: 0991, 0992, 0993, 0994, 0898, 0897, 0896, and 0895.

The Dito telco passed its first technical audit, surpassing its internet speed and population coverage commitment for its first year.

DITO covered 37.48 percent of the national population covering 8,860 barangays, a slightly higher than its initial commitment of 37.03 percent, the audit reported.

According to the independent audit report by RG Manabat & Co. through NTC, DITO registered the minimum average broadband speeds at 85.9 Mbps for 4G and 507.5 Mbps for 5G. The speed was faster near base stations at 102.4 Mbps for 4G and 769.1 Mbps for 5G, while those far from base stations posted speeds of 64.4 Mbps for 4G and 316.5 Mbps for 5G.

Internet connection speed at mid-point achieved 91.2 Mbps for 4G and 437.1 Mbps for 5G.

The telco's initial commitment was to provide at least 27 Mbps internet speeds in its first year.
