The famous China-based smartphone firm, Xiaomi, has announced its latest concept phone with a "quad-curved waterfall display," on February 5, 2021. Xiaomi is calling it an 88-degree hyper quad-curved screen, a new type of curved display that flows in all four corners of the phone.
The unnamed concept smartphone features no ports or physical buttons, which results in a port-free, unibody smartphone. In fact, its latest display comes with four rounded cutouts in the corners, probably there to prevent unnecessary touches of the palm. The location of the status bar on the upper right-hand side is another exciting feature.

According to Xiaomi, numerous development in glass bending and laminating technology is done to extend the limits of the display to infinity. Moreover, the unibody design represents the sum of 46 groundbreaking patents.
Producing this new display is the biggest challenge to Xiaomi, especially, manufacturing the 88° quad-curved glass panel and the 3D bonding process.
The 88° ultra quad-curved glass has nearly broken through the glass production technical limits. The complexity of hot bending increases exponentially compared with ordinary curved glass. A self-developed glass processing equipment, a hot bending under 800° high temperature and pressure, four different polishing tools, and more than ten complex polishing procedures are needed to polish a piece of such hyper-curved glass with a deep 88° bend on four sides.

Xiaomi's quad-curved waterfall display concept phone joins the firm's other innovations, including Mi Air Charge, Under Display Camera, and UWB technology.
Xiaomi has not yet stated when this new concept phone with a quad curved panel will be available.
