PPGL 2021 features Valorant, Wild Rift SEA tournaments

Philippine Pro Gaming League (PPGL) will be hosting the official national tournaments for Valorant and League of Legends: Wild Rift this 2021. To continue its effort to become the stepping stone for Filipino gamers' international success, PPGL has partnered with Predator Gaming for Challengers, OPPO, and Globe Virtual Hangouts for the Wild Rift SEA Icon Series.

Stage 1 of 2021 VALORANT Challengers PH has just concluded crowning BREN Esports and ArkAngel as the Philippines' representatives in the VCT Masters SEA, competing against teams from Thailand, Singapore & Malaysia, Hong Kong & Taiwan, and Indonesia. The Tagalog broadcast will be available on the official PPGL Twitch channel and PPGL YouTube channel on March 19-21.

Meanwhile, Stage 2 registration opened on March 15, with Riot Games announcing a new global format culminating in the first global LAN event for Masters in May. Over the course of five weeks, the second stage will feature two (2) open qualifiers and three (3) knockout playoffs to decide the two best teams representing the country in the SEA Challengers Final, an all-online regional tournament. Teams from the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong & Taiwan, and Malaysia & Singapore will compete in the Masters Stage 2 event in Reykjavik, Iceland, to represent the entire Southeast Asian region.

The Globe Cup's PHP 10,000,000 prize pool for the Wild Rift SEA Icon Series Philippines will be allocated between the Summer and Fall seasons in 2021. There will be a total of four (4) open leagues - North Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao - with each season having a PHP 5,000,000 prize pool.

Head of Globe Games and Esports DC Dominguez said, "We are very excited about the upcoming Preseason of the Wild Rift SEA Icon Series in the Philippines. This tournament will showcase the best of the best when it comes to playing Wild Rift. We are also introducing a point system called The Globe Cup. A system where teams earn corresponding points depending on their placing during the different legs of the tournament."

Teams that advance to the group stages in each open will earn points for each series won. They can redeem these points for an equivalent cash prize.

Summer Season Points Distribution

During the group stages, the teams will be awarded a total of PHP 3,600,000 in Globe Cup points. Furthermore, the top two teams from each regional open will participate in the national playoffs to determine who is the best in the Philippines. Teams will also earn 100,000 points for each series won, taking the total number of PHP 1,400,000 Globe Cup points. The earned points can only be redeemed after the season has concluded, and the top four teams with the most points will have direct slots to participate in the group stages of the Fall Season.

OPPO, the official mobile brand partner of Mineski for the Wild Rift SEA Icon Series tournament in the Philippines, is preparing to offer fans the full mobile gaming experience by showcasing smartphone features developed specifically for better gaming.

On March 20-21, the Wild Rift SEA Icon Series Philippines will kick off with a Preseason event that will feature Liyab Esports, RRQ, Execration, BREN Esports, Sunsparks, Team Secret, Omega Esports, and Nexplay Esports. The Summer Season begins on March 22 with the North Luzon Open, followed by the South Luzon Open on March 29, and the Visayas and Mindanao Open on April 12.

To comply with current pandemic safety protocols, both the VALORANT Challengers - Stage 2 and the Wild Rift SEA Icon Series: Summer Season in the Philippines will be held as all-online tournaments. All aspiring pro teams in the country are welcome to register for free.
