Sony Announces Three New G Lenses to Join Full-Frame Lens Series

Sony has officially announced its latest G Lenses, including the FE 50mm F2.5 G (model SEL50F25G), FE 40mm F2.5 G (model SEL40F25G), and FE 24mm F2.8 G (model SEL24F28G). These new G Lenses join the Full-Frame E-mount Lens Lineup. All three of these lenses offer high image quality and beautiful bokeh in a lightweight and compact design.

These lenses provide high resolution, intuitive operability, as well as fast, accurate, and quiet autofocus when used with a Sony full-frame or APS-C camera. The lenses were introduced as a suitable set for photo and video for various applications, including snap shooting, portraiture, and landscape photography.

Each of these three prime lenses has a focal length that is perfect for any shoot, with the 50mm being best for portraits, the 40mm being best for still or movie snap shooting, and the 24mm suitable for landscapes.

The lenses include a focus hold button, focus mode switch, aperture ring, and aperture click switch for optimal operability. The focus hold button can be customized in the camera menu and assigned to a function of the user's choice. When shooting stills or movies, the aperture ring gives a more intuitive and direct feel than running the camera body's aperture. Users can also use the aperture click switch to turn off the switchable click stops for movie shoots. Furthermore, when focusing manually with Linear Response MF, the focus ring responds precisely and linearly, making control feel immediate and intuitive, directly reflecting the photographer's intent and allowing fine focus adjustments.

The aluminum exterior gives it a high-end, elegant look while also adding strength and durability. Because the filter threads on the hood and the lens barrel are the same diameter (49mm), users can attach the same cap and filter on both the hood and the lens barrel. The new lenses are also dust and moisture resistant, making them suitable for use in any outdoor condition.

Fast, precise, and quiet autofocus

Two linear motors are used in the FE 50mm F2.5 G, FE 40mm F2.5 G, and FE 24mm F2.8 G to provide fast, precise autofocus (AF) with good tracking performance despite instantaneous changes in subject motion, making the lens ideal for snapping moving subjects. Besides, the AF is quiet, so it works for both still and moving images.
