Globe has received recognition for its network upgrades and modernization efforts at the Opensignal's 5G Global Mobile Network Experience Awards 2021. The telco placed first in 5G improvement over 4G for Games Experience and second in 5G improvement over 4G for Video Experience.

Globe Telecom saw the largest uplift in their mobile multiplayer gaming experience using 5G, with an overall improvement of 65.2 percent better than 4G.

Meanwhile, 5G Video experience with Globe was elevated to a rating of excellent, with an uplift of 32.8 percent better than 4G.

The findings demonstrate the dramatic improvements in user experience that can be achieved by investing heavily in 5G, which can deliver internet speeds up to 100 times faster than 4G. Additionally, it has less lag, which makes it ideal for video streaming and gaming.

Mobile analytics firm Opensignal measures the 5G Games Experience based on how mobile users experience real-time online mobile gaming on an operator's 5G network compared to older 4G technology. Moreover, on a scale of 0 - 100, it evaluates the impact of mobile network conditions on the multiplayer mobile game experience, including latency, packet loss, and jitter, in order to determine the effect on gameplay and the overall game experience.

Opensignal's 5G Video Experience is based on real-world measurements of video streams transmitted by smartphone users over a 5G network versus a 4G network. These metrics include picture quality, stall rate, and loading time to accurately reflect users' perceived video experience, based on International Telecommunication Union standards.

Video traffic now accounts for a sizable portion of global mobile data traffic, accounting for 66 percent of all mobile data traffic. The share continues to grow as mobile users migrate to higher-resolution streaming enabled by 5G network deployments.

According to Opensignal, 5G users consume more content at a higher quality on their smartphones for up to 2.7 times the amount of mobile data consumed by 4G users. Worldwide, mobile network operators are continuing to roll out commercial 5G networks to meet the growing demand for mobile data.
