YouTube eyes support for NFT features

Online video platform YouTube has announced that they are exploring non-fungible token (NFT) features as another source of revenue for creators.

According to YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, they're consistently "focused on expanding the YouTube ecosystem" to enable creators to capitalize on emerging technologies, such as NFTs.

Moreover, she discusses the areas in which the company intends to invest, such as gaming and shopping, and how the firm plans to help creators.

Wojcicki stated that YouTube is eyeing Web3 technology as a "source of inspiration," highlighting the prospects associated with crypto, decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), and NFTs.

However, NFTs are not the only new income opportunities on the horizon for YouTube in the coming year. Additionally, Wojcicki stated that the Google-led company is enthusiastic about podcasts, and they "expect" them to be an "integral part of the creator economy."

She also indicated that YouTube would expand its shopping features to further creators and experiment "how shopping can be integrated into Shorts."

YouTube did not add any information about how NFT features might be implemented at the company.

Meanwhile, there are different views on this emerging tech in the gaming community. Steam has banned blockchain from its platform, whereas Epic Games welcomes NFT games. In Southeast Asia, PlayPark has recently announced its plans to foray into NFT, as these crypto games, especially free NFT games, are booming in the region.
