Netflix is an online streaming service that requires a fast and stable internet connection to have an uninterrupted viewing experience. Netflix has released the December 2020 leaderboard for internet service providers in the Philippines based on their performance.
The ISP Speed Index of Netflix is built to test which ISPs have the best Netflix viewing experience during prime time. The list is based on data collected from users on the site.
According to the December 2020 Netflix ISP Speed Index, Converge tops the board at 3.4 Mbps. The telco has been leading the Philippine ISP leaderboard for the last six months, as seen from the ISP Leaderboard website.
Meanwhile, Globe and PLDT tied for second place at 3.2 Mbps, followed by SKYCable at 3.0 Mbps. The last spot goes to the Laguna-based telco Royal Cable with a speed of 2.6 Mbps.

Why is the speed index important for streaming Netflix? Because Netflix's videos are best viewed on a strong internet network, which is not just about speed but also about latency, jitter, and packet loss. Otherwise, users would have problems with buffering, pixelization, and so on.
Also, Netflix now has a lot of 4K or UHD content that offers a much better immersive viewing experience but needs more bandwidth. Netflix recommends a minimum internet speed of 25 Mbps for 4K video on its website, which is very well supported by the recent permanent free speed upgrades from Converge, where its entry-level P1,500 package is now 35 Mbps from the previous 25 Mbps.
With the rollout of free speed upgrades of up to 300 Mbps for its consumer plans last December, Converge subscribers can continue to expect the best streaming experience with Netflix.
Converge Chief Operating Officer Jesus Romero said, "The changes we have felt arising from the pandemic has led many to explore their options for at-home entertainment, and we are pleased to see that Converge's pure fiber internet has allowed its subscribers to enjoy the very best of online streaming platform Netflix, uninterrupted and in the highest possible quality. Our showing in the latest Netflix ISP Speed Index illustrates our commitment to continue providing fast and affordable internet to our subscribers."
