How to Fix Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 (Connection Issues)
Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 (Global Version), also known as Redmi AirDots 2 (Chinese Version), is fantastic earbuds in terms of price. It offers good sound quality and ease of use to meet a user's wireless earphone needs. Listening to music is also great with the extra bass.
Despite good points, it also has issues that users are experiencing. Some users encountered several problems in pairing or connection. Either the right or left earbud is not working. Others experienced earbuds suddenly shut down, and one bud has no sound.
There are three main reasons why your Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 is not working:
1. Software Problem
2. Battery Empty
3. Hardware Problem
Below are the tutorials on fixing your Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 issues.
Verify the Authenticity of the Product First
Before you troubleshoot the problem, you must first verify if your Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 is original. Scratch the sticker in the product box to see its 20-digit security code. Go to mi.com/verify and select the "Xiaomi Product Authentication" tab. Enter the 20-digit security code, and don't forget to input the 4-digit verification code before pressing the "Verify" button. If it's authentic, you will see a message that it's verified and coded for the first time. If the code has been queried numerous times, it may be a counterfeit.
After product confirmation, check the serial number of your earbuds. If it has a lower value than S/N: 28592/08109801, you need to update it to solve those particular issues. Anything higher than the said serial number comes with newer firmware.
Troubleshooting the Problem
1. If both buds and dock have no power, all you need to do is plug in your micro USB cable to charge. Remember, the buds take 90 minutes (1 hour and 30 minutes) to make a full charge, while the dock takes 150 mins (2 hours and 30 minutes) to be fully charged. After that, you can upgrade the firmware. (You can check the guide below)
2. If one bud went battery empty and cannot charge, do a reset before making a firmware update. (You can see the reset tutorial below)
3. If both buds cannot be charged and reset, then the problem is in the hardware. You can bring it to the Mi Authorized Service Center near you. See List of Mi Stores in the Philippines.
Reset Method
Resetting your Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 will usually solve its problems. Follow the steps below to get started.
1. Take out both earbuds from the case.
2. Turn off the earbuds first. Press and hold the Multi-function button for 5 seconds until the lights go red.
3. Once they're off, press and hold the Multi-function button for 15 seconds until the lights go red and then blink red-white instantaneously.
4. Release the button, and that's it! You've successfully done a factory reset for your earbuds. Your earbuds are now paired/synced. You can put them back now in the case.
You can also do these additional steps to fix pairing problems. Go to your phone's Bluetooth settings and delete all the paired earbuds. After that, you can now connect your earbuds.
The reset method is also expected to work with other Xiaomi wireless earbuds such as Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic and Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic S.
Firmware Upgrade
Firmware upgrade or software update is vital in fixing connection issues of your Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2. Before doing the procedure below, make sure that your charging case is fully charged.
1. Download and install the Mi True Wireless EBs Basic 2 FOTA app. Scan the QR code.
2. Connect one earbud to the phone, and the other earbud remains in the case.
3. Open the app and tap the "CONNECT" button, and it will scan for the earbud.
4. It will notify you that a New Version is available. Tap the "UPDATE" button.
5. Once you get the "Update Complete" popup, put back the updated earbud to the case and do the same process on the other earbud.
To double-check it, for each earbud, repeat Steps 3 to 5. Once the earbuds are updated, it will return as "Already the latest version" and click OK to exit the app.
You can run some tests like making calls or receiving calls to check if your earbuds are now working correctly. You can now enjoy music with the 7.2 mm dynamic audio drivers of the Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2.
