Hearthstone Patch 22.2: Battlegrounds Buddies, Lunar New Year, more

Blizzard has announced a new major update for Hearthstone, which is set to release on January 25, 2022. This is Patch 22.2, bringing Battlegrounds Buddies, updates for Mercenaries, the Lunar New Year event, and more. Check out below the highlights of Hearthstone Patch 22.2.

Battlegrounds Buddies (January 25)

In this patch, Hearthstone will be introducing a new Battlegrounds Buddy System. A Battlegrounds Buddy is a special minion unique to each Hero, designed to synergize with that Hero's game strategy.

• New combat system: During combat, the "Buddy Meter" fills up.
• Heroes have their own Buddy cards; 75 heroes and their unique Buddies will be available.
• Each Buddy copy earned acquired acts as a minion both in hand and on the board.

Mercenaries Village Update (January 25)

The Training Grounds is a new area in the village that allows players' Mercenaries to gain experience passively while completing Bounties with other Mercenaries, playing other game modes, or even when they're away from the keyboard.

• Training Grounds is a new addition to the Village where Mercenaries can be sent to gain passive XP.
• Balinda Stonehearth, Captain Galvangar, Lokholar, Wrathion, and Sinestra are the new mercenaries.
• New Bounties and Feature Updates, including Mercenaries Card Back and Oval-Art of Portraits.

Book of Mercenaries: Tavish Stormpike (February 1)

Tavish Stormpike, a hunter, must overcome Frostwolves, Horde mercenaries, angry Troggs, his own family, and food poisoning. Is he capable of enduring it?

• Defeating all eight bosses in this linear adventure rewards players with a Hunter pack containing only Hunter cards from Standard.
• Tavern Brawl (Special) – Tavish vs. Rokara (January 26)
• Choose one of your mercenary companions to represent your Hero Power when playing Tavish or Rokara.
• Each combination of characters has its own set of dialogue interactions.
• First-time winners will receive a Standard pack containing all of Standard's cards.

Lunar New Year (February 2-16)

• From January 25 to February 8, all players will receive a free Dancing Lion Card Back.
• Lunar Blessing Tavern Brawl (February 2-9)
• Quests (February 2-16)
