Valorant Patch 4.0 brings Neon, updates on maps, weapons, ranked, more

Riot Games has released Patch 4.0 for Valorant, along with patch notes. This latest update brings the new Duelist agent Neon and several updates to weapons, maps, and the Competitive mode. Check out the highlights below.

New Agent: Neon

Neon is a Duelist agent with an electric ability kit, enabling her to move fast around the map and stun opponents. Her abilities are Fast Lane, Relay Bolt, High Gear, and Overdrive.

Weapon Nerfs and Buffs

Spectre (Nerfed)

The Spectre has been slightly nerfed to make it more difficult to spray down enemies at a distance, and players will need to be more precise with their spray at close range.

Specifically, firing error occurs now at earlier bullet stages. Recoil multipliers for pitch and yaw (vertical and horizontal) were increased when running/jumping/on ascender (from 1.25 >>> 1.5). Meanwhile, the protected bullet count from yaw switching while spraying was decreased (8 >>> 5 bullets). The time required to switch yaw was reduced (from .24 >>>.18 seconds).

Bulldog (Buffed)

The Bulldog was buffed. Its hip fire rate was increased (9.5 >>> 10). Meanwhile, its recovery on burst fire was improved (.4 >>> .35).

Guardian (Buffed)

The firing rate penalty on ADS (Aim Down Sight) on Guardian was removed. Also, it now has an additional bullet before it enters a recovery curve.

Ares (Buffed)

Spin up for Ares was removed. Its firing rate was increased from 10 >>> 13.

Melee (Buffed)

The melee attack has been enhanced significantly. The hitbox for right-click is now 1.5 times larger, and the hitbox for left-click is now larger than the hitbox for right-click. Additionally, the left-click's range has been increased slightly, and targets near the attack's center will be hit first, allowing players to perform precise melee hits. Moreover, as a bonus update, knifing walls now have instant feedback.

Note: Changes to the melee will ship with Patch 4.01.

Map Updates

Breeze and Bind are revamped in Patch 4.0.

Breeze

The A Main entrance has been widened to prevent defenders from peaking in two positions simultaneously. Further, two new crates have been added to A Cave, providing attackers with additional cover when pushing the site.

The rear of A site has been adjusted as well, with the pool extended to the wall and a new large yellow crate providing additional cover for defenders. This should help defenders maintain their safety and make retaking the site less stressful. Additionally, the Spike can be planted in the expanded pool area. Moreover, the door on A site cannot be reactivated until it opens or closes.

The curved wall in the center has been repositioned. The B site received several updates, including a new concrete block to protect the site's central pillar and a new wall to cover the site's back portion. Additionally, crates have been added to the B Wall to provide additional protection for defenders near their spawn.

Bind

The boxes in A Main on Bind have been altered to prevent players from deploying the infamous one-way smoke that was once an attacker's worst nightmare. Besides that, a new bench provides an additional way for attackers to gaze into the site.

Competitive Updates

Account Level Requirement for Ranked

Accounts that have not yet played in Ranked must reach account level 20 before entering the Competitive queue.

Reduced 5-stack Rank Rating penalty

Diamond 2 and lower players will see a 25% reduction in their RR penalty compared to the current balance. This means that the new minimum penalty is 25% reduced gains/losses than the previous 50%.

Increased Map Randomization

The latest patch increased the weight of the maps, resulting in an increase in map variety and a decrease in map duplication between matches.

Bug Fixes

  • Valorant 4.0 Update fixed the Signature Kill Counter that was not updating visually due to a bug.
  • Coaches should no longer encounter the issue where swapping targets with number keys + mouse clicks sometimes fails.
